OUR MISSION

Transforming Lives, One Child at a Time

For almost twenty years, Refugee Resources has walked alongside refugee families in Dallas, equipping students with literacy skills, building life-changing mentor relationships, and sharing the lasting hope of the Gospel.

Our mission at Refugee Resources is to empower Dallas-based students and their families by building foundational literacy skills, fostering impactful mentor relationships, and sharing the transformative hope of the Gospel.

The Reading Circle is structured to provide our students with individualized instruction from a consistent weekly mentor/literacy coach. Students are informally assessed by his/her mentor and shared with the student as they progress through the decodable books, oral fluency and leveled readers. Each students’ progress is monitored through the program.

The Preschool Circle is a nurturing, weekly program designed for refugee children ages 2-5. Through themed play and caring mentorship, we build early literacy, math, motor, and school readiness skills — laying the essential foundation for lifelong learning and success.

Through the course of the semester, students develop strong relational ties with mentors, therefore encouraging academic success.

Latest Blog - Embracing the Spirit of Emmanuel

Advent is a season of waiting, reflection, and quiet preparation. As Christmas approaches, we rehearse familiar stories—the journey to Bethlehem, the search for shelter, the promise of Emmanuel, God with us. These stories invite us not only to celebrate Christmas, but also to reconsider how we spend our time and to whom we give our attention, especially those who find themselves strangers in a new land.

I’ve always had a bit of a knack for connecting with refugees. During college at the University of Virginia, I volunteered with the International Rescue Committee, helping with green card applications, and with an on-campus organization that paired college-aged mentors with refugee children. Both roles were deeply rewarding. But like many seasons of life, that chapter eventually gave way to others. Law school, work, and growing responsibilities slowly crowded out volunteering. Even though the pull toward mentoring never fully left me, I told myself I didn’t quite have the time—or the right skills—to step back in.

Then, about a year ago, I found my way back through Refugee Resources’ Reading Circle program.
